Fate/Extra [REVIEW]

Goodbye October~ Time pass really fast, especially when you're busy... So, for the 1st day of November 2013, I'll introduce a non-otome game for PSP that I had played this year – Fate/Extra. Developed by Type-Moon & Image Epoch. Published by Marvelous Entertainment, Aksys Games & Ghostlight. All of them make great games, by the way. You might even have played some of their games! I won't post any walkthrough for Fate/Extra because there is a detailed walkthrough by Cirnopoly. It's the best designed walkthrough I've ever seen for a game, very organized and full of pictures! So thankful to those who came up with that!

Before I go in-depth to the game, heard of Fate/stay night? If yes, great! If no, it's alright~ Either way, the game story is sufficient. Fate/Extra is a RPG with an in-depth plot that is not relevant to the anime series or original version. The 3D characters are amazingly designed and scenery is fantastic. It is a dungeon gameplay and fret not, it's easy to win. You'll fight against monsters in dungeon and opponents in arena. You get to choose to play as a male or female (which attracted me to play initially). You are given 3 servants to choose from, 2 females and 1 male. All of them are from different class and need different skill levels.

Fighting against monsters help you gain experience points to level up. Before you can fight the opponents, you'll need to find clues or their weaknesses by going through 7 days of training. In most days, there will be events and the rest is just for you to train in the arena peacefully. All in all, the game is fun to play especially you get to know the story of each opponent and the servant. There are exciting competitions (i.e. treasure hunting) and uninvited battles. Furthermore, you get to read their backgrounds and some are based on historical figures. I suggest starting out with the Normal Mode.

A few useful tips or lessons I've learnt while playing the game:
  • Always try to train a few levels more than advised
  • Monster will respawn, fight the rest and go back to the first monster
  • Gaining at least 2 -3 levels in the arena which you can only go once each day
  • Flying monsters give more experience points
  • Ensure PSP battery is high when fighting in arena as data can't be saved in there
  • Ensure the health is always high. Once you die, it's game over & you can only load what you had saved previously (before heading to arena & need to re-train again).
  • Don't fight against unknown opponent when the walkthrough stated it's not quite possible to win, you might be killed instantly with one move (which I had once).
  • Check the guide about your servant's skill upgrading, don't waste the skill points
Heed these & you'll complete the game very soon.
